accessibility ambassadors on a mission to educate

Accessibility is close to our heart,

When you live with disabilities and have friends with disabilities, you no some things or places aren’t accessible but everything, and all places should be accessible. It’s definitely improving in this modern world but we all need to reach out and educate.

Education is the best gift when it comes to changes many people we see on social media platforms expect to be paid to educate which we think is wrong if you educate your not only doing it for yourself your also doing it for other people like yourself and for future lives.

Exclusion happens if they don’t no or think of certain needs so no changes need to be made.

Being positive and reaching out in a positive way makes it all so much easier and makes you feel like you helped make positive changes.

Recently we visited a few restaurants over a few weeks and all of them had menus with tiny writing to read we was with friends who could read to us and one friend had forgotten her glasses so even she had an issue so she took a photograph and zoomed in the waitress came over and we voiced our concerns she said I can tell you what’s what.

When we got home we thought about all these places how they are accessible for every other disability but not customers with a visual impairment?

So that’s how our mission started many many emails and reply’s saying they will pass on our thoughts to our menu design team thank you for reaching out and one restaurant stood out they wanted a phone meeting and ideas and thoughts on changes so we had a lovely chat with a lady over her design team and she said thank you for reaching out they take it very seriously there restaurant and brand to be accessible and inclusive to all there customers and they where sorry our experience wasn’t accessible or we couldn’t be independent at reading there menu.

There new menus are getting launched at the end of March so they have more to think about then just fancy small text.

We suggested along with there vegan menu they could have a easy read version on offer for customers needing a accessible menu or the main menu to have clear larger bold black text on a white background.

So we hear soon what is there progress, she said we have never thought of this problem, We all needed to be Educated on this and thank you for helping us highlight this problem.

We are looking forward to see there changes and read the menu ourselves.

If you educate someone on accessibility remember it’s for the future not just the moment.
